TitleNothe School
AbstractThe northern end of the Nothe Cottages was used as a school during the war. Members of the Webb family (Susan Luckham's mother was a Webb) moved to the Nothe from Kensington when they were bombed and set up a school - at least one was a teacher. There was a demand for a local school as the war meant a lot of children were not prepared to travel to Colchester. Subjects included net making and poetry (at another house). The school had closed by the end of the war.
Information above from Susan Luckham, who had been in touch with some of the former pupils.
3 June 2011 talked to Mary Wheeler and Sheila Chatters about the school - saved as an audio file.
Other pupils at the school: Milly Barton, Ian Michell, Jeremy Jasper, Mafalda Tapp, Sheila Chatters, Mary Wheeler.
