Hundreds of barrels of pickled sprats lie awaiting shipment in part of a Brightlingsea curer's yard in about 1932. Coopers and other workmen are checking the parrels and paint identification marks on them. This photograph indicates the size of the trade, which did not revive after the second world war. The site is now the boat park of the Colne Yacht Club. [JL caption with this Douglas Went photograph].
