| Abstract | About 210 years ago great grandfather Green worked for Mason at West Hall, and planted lime trees round the inside of the church yard and also the tree on the green opposite the White Hart. He planted a horse chestnut tree just outside the church yard - Baring Gould's horse bit the top out of this tree and it grew in three trunks. The tree was cut down about 1980.
Bill's grandfather [ Abraham ?] worked for Holt at Brickhouse Farm 1847 - 1848. The had 4 daughters and 2 sons - Susan, Polly, Mary (Bill's mother, he says), Bertha, Roger, Abraham.
On the Clarry side, grandfather came from Bulmer in Suffolk. Two brothers had small pox so he left and walked to Mersea for a job. Worked at Brickhouse Farm. Married the Cook - Lucy Clay from Abberton. [John Green (son of Abraham) married Elizabeth Clay at West Mersea Parish Church, 8 November 1840 - is this relevant? ], 3 sons and 2 daughters.
During WW1 Bill was stationed in Dublin at the same time (1916) as Sinn Fein took the Post Office.
