Feature School Gardens. A Promise to Tommy and Mary by Sylvia Wargent.
Article from Courier 666, page 22.

The School Gardens are undergoing transformation again. Sylvia takes us back to an ambitious scheme in 1930 which resulted in the school Garden and Field being acquired and developed for teaching gardening and looking after animals. The land came from Maude Preston Ruddock of The Gables, and Hephzibah Thorpe of The Hollys.

We go on to a 1931 scheme to purchase specimen trees and shrubs and plant them round the Gardens and Field. There was a Grand Opening on a wet and windy day in December 1932, where Mrs Trim planted the first tree in memory of her husband William.
