Norman and I met in March of 1973.We started the Garage in November the same year. We rented it from Brain Parkinson who ran The Accessory Shop which became a Youth Coffee Shop and finally Tesco Express today. When we first started the Garage I couldn't drive, so as soon as I was old enough Norman bought me a moped so I could collect the parts from Colchester. One of the store man at D. Salmon in Colchester can still remember and smile at me sitting on my moped while he strapped an exhaust system to my back and then push started me to get back to Mersea about 9 miles away. Stuart my son who now runs the business was truly born to it. The day before he was born I was on top of a petrol tanker checking the petrol dips. Fourteen days later he was in a carry cot in the office with me. Two years later Spence was born and joined us at the Garage. Both the boys worked in the Garage during their school holidays etc.

So you can see it's really is a family business
