William Locker of East Mersea

Date of will: 2nd December 1667
Date of death: unknown
Date of Probate: 22nd July 1668

William Locker bequeaths his soul to God. He makes the following bequests:

20 shillings to the poor of the parish of East Mersea to be paid 3 months after William's decease upon the advice of the churchwardens and the overseers of the parish.
To his son John Locker: all copyhold houses and lands with the appurtenances in both East and West Mersea and therefater to John's heirs.
To his daughter Mary Locker: £6 per annum for the rest of her natural life, to be paid in quarterly installments with effect from the next quarter day after the decease of William.
To John Harris, son of Thomas Harris: £5 to be paid when John attains the age of 21 years.
To Marie Harris, daughter of Thomas Harris: £5 to be paid when Marie attains the age of 21 years.
To John Start, kinsman to William Locker: £5 to be paid when John attains the age of 21 years.
To Rose Burrill: 20 shillings for her care and comfort to be paid 3 months after the death of William, plus board and lodgings until the following Michaelmas.

The residue of the estate to be paid to John Locker, son of William, who is also appointed sole executor.

1.   In the Name of God Amen I William Loker of East Marsey in
2.   the Countie of Essex being sicke in bodye but in good & perfit memorie
3.   (thankes bee to God for it) Doe Ordaine and make this my Last Will and
4.   Testament in Manner and forme following :: First I bequeath my soule
5.   into the hands of God that gave it and my body to the earth through
6.   the merrits of Jesus Christ my Redeemer hoping for a joyfull Resurction
7.   And as for the wordly goods which God of his mercie hath Lent mee
8.   I give and bequeath as followeth: Imprimis I give unto the poore of the
9.   parrish of East marsay twentie shillins to bee paid three monthes after my
10.   decease by my Exeqtor with the Advice of the Church wardens and the
11.   Overseers of [th]e s[ai]d parrish :: Item I give unto my Son John Locker all my
12.   Coppiehold houses and Lands with the Ap[er]tinances in East mersey and west
13.   mersie to him and his Heyres for ever :: Item I give unto my daughter Mary
14.   Six pound a yeare during her naturall life to bee paid by my Exeqeter
15.   by 4 equall and even payments the first paymt to beging the quarter
16.   day after my decease Item I give unto John Harris the son of Thomas
17.   Harris five pounds to bee paid when hee shall Accomplish the Age of
18.   one and twentie yeares Ittem unto marie Harris daughter unto thomas
19.   Harris Senior this sum five pounds to bee paid when shee shall Accomplish
20.   the Age of one and twentie yeares Ittem I give unto John Start my Kinsman
21.   five pounds to bee paid when hee shall Accomplish the Age of one and Twentie
22.   yeares Ittem I give unto Rose Burrill the sum[m] of <...> twentie shillins
23.   for her care and paines with mee in my weaknes as alsoe her board
24.   & dyet in the house untill Michalmas next the Lagacy to bee paid three
25.   monthes after my decease And Lastly I doe give all the rest of my goods
26.   chattle moneyes dews debts whatsoever unto my son John whom I do
27.   make and ordaine my Sole Exeqeter of this my Last Will and Testament
28.   to pay my debts and Legacies and laying my body decently in the Ground
29.   witnes my hand & seale this second day of december on Thousand
