At this time, there are thought to have been dairy herds at Bromans Farm, East Mersea Hall, Waldegraves, Brierley Hall and Bower Hall, though perhaps not all of them could handle milk in bulk. Not many years before this, milk was always collected in churns. Milk for the island also came from Knight's Farm in Peldon. By 2020, there were no dairy herds on the island.
The lorry is from Drury Farm Dairy who were on Maldon Road in Colchester.
