 Strood pile. The wood pile was excavated from under the Strood by workmen in 1978.

This is one of a number of piles recovered. Carbon dating showed them to date from approximately 600 AD - Saxon times. Other oak piles have been dated to 684-702 AD.

The pile is 7ft 4in (223cm) high and is heavy.
