Mersea loses an old woman of character.
A woman with a host of memories of Mersea and a direct link with the island's famous write Sabine Baring Gould, author of the marshland romance "Mehalah" died in hospital on Monday.

She was Mrs Isabella Dawson, 91, grandmother to West Mersea councillor Mr Alan Dawson. Until a few months ago she had lived at St Peter's Cottage, High Street North, West Mersea
